The year 2020 commemorates the end of the Indian Indentureship system
The year 2020 commemorates 100 years since the Indian indentureship system ended. On January 01, 1920, all contractual obligations of all labourers terminated and the Indian indentureship system ceased to exist.
Over 147,500 Indian workers came to Trinidad from 1845 to 1917, bringing their cultural and religious traditions and adding colour to Trinidad and Tobago’s multi-ethnic society.
