Commemorating World Day for Audiovisual Heritage - 27 October 2024

The National Archives joins UNESCO and other archives around the world in commemorating the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage – October 27 and highlighting the value and vulnerability of audiovisual media.

We salute the many public and private broadcasting and production entities that have documented our own stories, bringing to life the essence of our past – the time, context, culture, collective memory, and oral history.

The National Archives remains committed to preserving our audiovisual heritage to facilitate the preservation of our national identity as well as support education, research and the development of our creative industries.

The National Archives’ Audio Visual Digitization Project continues to digitize Government’s valuable historical analogue audio and video media for long term preservation and access.
